Akord (formerly Dům kultury Akord and Dům kultury NH Ostrava-Jih ) is a building in Ostrava-Zábřeh built in 1959 in the style of socialist realism based on a project by Jiří Kroha's studio. [1] It forms an architecturally significant complex with other buildings on Náměstí SNP. The building has halls and lounges for 10 to 580 people.
Until 1990, it was operationally part of the state enterprise Nová huť. In the years 1991 to 1992, it fell under the KOVO Trade Union. On January 1, 1993, it became a limited liability company, at the end of 2005 it was transformed into the Akord Ostrava-Zábřeh s.r.o. Culture House, whose sole shareholder is the Statutory City of Ostrava.
In 2013 and 2014, DK Akord underwent extensive reconstruction, which stripped the building of its social-realist stamp. The Akord Restaurant and the three-star Akord Hotel also operate in the building.
The Akord house's cultural program is aimed at various age and social groups.
