Roman Kodet is a Czech historian, Japanologist and university teacher. He works at the Department of Historical Sciences of the Faculty of Arts of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.
He has been dealing with the history of Japan for a long time, about which he has already written two specialist books, namely Samurai Wars: Conflicts of Old Japan 1156–1877 (2015), Samurai Story (2018).
You can look forward to an engaging talk about the legacy of the samurai in modern society. The lecture will focus on how samurai are portrayed in modern Japanese culture, how they are perceived by contemporary Japanese and what legacy they play, for example, in the local tradition of individual regions. It will be supplemented by a presentation combining references to important artistic and social phenomena of contemporary Japan, with the personal experience of the speaker.
