Background

Information

Born in 1962, he studied design at Tokyo University of the Arts. After working in the visual effects studio and in the field of computer graphics, he founded the company I.TOON Ltd. in 1998, in which he also holds the position of president. He creates animated films using various types of animation techniques, especially plasticine (so-called clay animation). He is also involved in many other activities and, for example, he is also involved in character design.


Among his most famous works are the series KNYACKI!, which has been broadcast for 29 years as part of NHK's educational program, as well as the clip Grasshopper Story (Gurasuhoppa Monogatari) for NHK's Minna no Uta series, a TV commercial for the product "Pon de Lion" by Mister Donut , the animation for the "traveling" music video featuring the famous Japanese singer Utada Hikaru, or the clay animation software called "Clay Town".
In recent years, he has been active on the juries of animated film festivals, travels to Central European countries to present his works, and strives to deepen inter-university cooperation.



Work

His animated film "HARBOR TALE" won many awards, including the award for best animated film and the audience award at the International Film Festival in Zlín, and was shown in twenty-four countries. Itó himself received, among other things, the Slovak medal of honor of Albín Brunovský. He is a professor at his alma mater, teaching graduate students in animation at the Department of Film and New Media. He is also a board member of the Japan Animation Association and a member of ASIFA-JAPAN.
At our festival, he will present his works and introduce the Stop Motion animation technique.
